What a big boys these comfrey roots! They are utilized since ages for wounds, as they provide natural healing properties, because of its high allantoin content. This makes cells grow faster. However, there is concern about the pyrrolizidine alkaloids contained in the root, so we must be careful using them! Do not try this at home...
After cleaning and chopping the roots into small rounds, Brigitte places them, dried or fresh, in alcohol before processing them into sirop to add in water. Another part of the chopped roots are soaked in oil, instead of alcohol, to make balms of it.
We must admit that these roots are not the cutest to watch, but they are worth it to make our hands dirty!
